Things to Do in Salt Lake City with Kids

Salt Lake City with Kids

The Salt Lake City area is where the majority of the population of Utah lives.  There are tons of museums, zoos, and family activities in Utah.  This post will concentrate primarily on Northern Utah.  Let’s explore some of your options.

Temple Square

salt Lake City Temple Square

Temple Square is the heart of downtown Salt Lake City.  5 million people a year visit this lovely area of Salt Lake City.

Things To Do

Temple Square is home base to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  This area includes the Salt Lake Temple, two visitor centers, a family history library, the tabernacle, the conference center, and the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day saints values families so there are plenty of interactive exhibits that your kids will love.

(Please note that Temple Square is currently undergoing major renovations, and accessibility is limited.)

Sister Missionaries

The grounds at Temple Square are beautiful, don’t be afraid to talk to the sister missionaries.  These sisters are serving an 18 month mission for the church and are volunteering their time.  They will give you a tour around the complex.  If English isn’t your first language don’t worry.  These tours are offered in 40 different languages!

This area of Salt Lake City is safe.

My Opinion

If you are in the area, and are looking for things to do in Salt Lake City with kids this is a great choice. However, be aware that it is not located in the best area.  There are homeless people that have made their homes in this area. It is a high theft area.

Inside the museum you will be fine but your car might not be!   I don’t want to sound too negative. The museum is amazing, I took my kids all the time when they were little but the area is not what it used to be.

Clark Planetarium
