Fun Things to Do in Salt Lake City with Kids
The Salt Lake City area is where the majority of the population of Utah lives. There are tons of museums, zoos, and family activities in Utah. This post will concentrate primarily on Northern Utah. Let’s explore some of the best things to do in Utah with kids.
1. Temple Square
Temple Square is the heart of downtown Salt Lake City. 5 million people a year visit this lovely area of Salt Lake City.
Things To Do
Temple Square is home base to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. This area includes the Salt Lake Temple, two visitor centers, a family history library, the tabernacle, the conference center, and the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day saints values families so there are plenty of interactive exhibits that your kids will love.
(Please note that Temple Square is currently undergoing major renovations, and accessibility is limited.)
The grounds at Temple Square are beautiful, don’t be afraid to talk to the sister missionaries. These sisters are serving an 18-month mission for the church and are volunteering their time. They will give you a tour around the complex. If English isn’t your first language don’t worry. These tours are offered in 40 different languages!
This area of Salt Lake City is safe and a great family attraction in Utah.
2. Discovery Gateway Museum
The Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum is located in downtown Salt Lake City. It is a great museum and is a lot of fun for kids in Utah.
There are areas for both very young kids as well as older kids. On the main level, there are lots of opportunities for play. The second floor incorporates many STEM activities.

Inside the museum, you will be fine but your car might not be! I don’t want to sound too negative. The museum is amazing, I took my kids all the time when they were little but the area is not what it used to be.
3. Clark Planetarium
The Clark Planetarium is located in downtown Salt Lake City right next to the Discovery Gateway Children’s Museum. It is a great place to have some family fun in Utah.
