One of the best places to visit in the US in October is Napa, California. This isn't the best fall break destination with kids but a perfect idea for a fall vacation for adults.
Temperatures range from a high of 79 degrees Fahrenheit to a low of 53 degrees in October. During the day it is comfortable to walk around the vineyards and it is still warm enough to have lunch outside.

Vineyards and wine tasting is what is on everyone’s mind when planning an itinerary. There are so many places to visit that it can be difficult to choose between them. Pick a variety of vineyards – some for their wine and some for the opulent architecture.
In terms of interesting architecture you can visit a “French chateaux ” at Domain Carneros or a “Greek temple” at Darioush. At Castello di Amorosa you get both sweeping vineyard views as well as a “Tuscan castle”. When it comes to wine tasting consider visiting one of the smaller vineyards such as the O’Brien Estate for a more private experience.

20. Maine Fall Break in Acadia National Park
Acadia National Park in Maine is a must-see East Coast fall vacation. Here you’ll be greeted with both mountain and ocean views AND colorful changing leaves- what more can you ask for?
Average high temperatures in September and October average 55°F- 67°F, while the average low is 38°F- 48°F. Fall foliage typically peaks in mid-October, though the date changes yearly due to temperature and precipitation.

While in Acadia, do the 27-mile scenic drive around the park and allow extra time for photo stops. The drive connects the mountains to the coast, passing through lakes as well.
