What Surprised Me Most at Perfect Day at CocoCay — And It Wasn’t the Beaches

When I booked my Royal Caribbean cruise, I assumed Perfect Day at CocoCay would be all about the beaches.

Crystal-clear water. Powder-soft sand. A classic Bahamas beach day.

And yes — the beaches are beautiful.

But that’s not what surprised me most.

What caught me off guard was how much there is to do beyond just laying in the sun — and how differently everyone on the island experiences it. Families racing to waterslides. Couples tucked away in quiet coves. Cruise lovers hopping between swim-up bars and hidden hammocks. Thrill-seekers tackling the tallest waterslide in North America. Relaxation seekers claiming shaded loungers and not moving for hours.

Perfect Day at CocoCay isn’t just a beach stop — it’s a choose-your-own-adventure island designed exclusively for guests sailing on a Royal Caribbean cruise.

So what actually surprised me the most?

Book A Perfect Day Cococay Cruise

Where is Perfect Day at Cococay?

Perfect Day at Cococay is located in the Bahamas! This Perfect Day at Cococay map gives you an idea of where it is located.

Many cruise lines have private islands in the Bahamas.  Royal Caribbean’s is Perfect Day at Cococay. The best way to cruise to Cococay is to access the island through the Cococay Port.  

Perfect Day Cococay Update

Royal Caribbean invested over 250 million in 2019 to update the Royal Caribbean island Perfect Day at Cococay.  It now has more beaches including South Beach which was designed for those cruisers who love to be active.  

There are many activities such as volleyball, basketball, soccer, standup paddleboarding, kayaking, and bumper bubbles.  

The Coco Beach Club is another addition.  This is a private VIP experience.  On top of these new additions, the island also offers thrill rides, beach time, watersports, Up, Up, and Away, and so many more experiences everyone will love. 

Weather at Cococay Bahamas

Cococay Bahamas weather was probably one of the reasons Royal Caribbean named their island Perfect Day. 

The weather is fabulous almost all year long. The Cococay Bahamas weather ranges from 74 in January and February and 88 in the summertime.  There will be more rain during hurricane season. 

I made a chart listed below to help you know what the Cococay Bahamas weather will be like when you visit.  Hopefully, this gives you a heads up on what to expect when you arrive.

The chart also depicts the temperature of the Ocean around the Perfect Day at Cococay Island.  It is a really nice swimming temperature 88 as a high and 73 as a low.

Which Ships Cruise to Perfect Day at Coco Cay Bahamas?

If you are looking to narrow down which cruise ship you should book that makes a stop at the Perfect Day at Coco Cay port.  This list will give you a place to start.

Royal Caribbean may change routes.  For example, we went on Oasis of the Seas, but I don’t think it’s normal itinerary stops at Perfect Day at Coco Cay.

Royal Caribbean is one of the best cruise lines for first-timers and Perfect Day is a great example of why! Be sure to choose one of  those awesome cruise ships so you can experience it! 

Getting off the Ship at Cococay Bahamas Port

Before you get off the ship, I have a few tips.

Eat Breakfast

There is food on the island but you might want to grab a bite to eat before you get off the ship. If you eat before you go you will be ready to play once you step onto Cococay. 

Not every breakfast area is open on the ship the day you arrive at Perfect Day at Coco Cay.  Windjammers was open as well as the Cafe Promenade on the Oasis of the Seas.  (The ship we were on.)

Lockers at Cococay Bahamas

There are lockers located throughout Cococay island.  These lockers are free.  They are very simple to use and very conveniently located.  As you exit the ship and cross the port, it will be one of the first things you see at Perfect Day.  

We used the lockers inside of the Thrill Water Park.  They are very nice.  You simply create a code and follow the instructions on the lockers.  

Restrooms on Cococay Island

There are 9 restrooms located around Perfect Day at Cococay.  They are clean and well taken care of.  

Towel Exchange

There are two ways to get and exchange towels.  You can do this before you get off the ship. (This is what we did.) The towel exchange is usually near the pool on the ship.

Another option is to wait until you get to Cococay.  There are several towel stations all over the island. 

Just a Reminder

To get your towel you have to scan your cruise card.  If you forget to return it they will charge you.   

Is Perfect Day at Cococay Free?

We are going to list the Perfect Day at Cococay prices, however there are a lot of fun things that are included for free.  

1. Cococay Cabanas

**Additional Cost

Cabanas are located in the following areas:

• Chill Island
• Oasis Lagoon
• Thrill Water Park
• Coco Beach Club (overwater is available)

These cabanas range from $300 to $1600 depending on the time you travel.  One thing to note is that some of these cabanas come with perks.  For instance, if you rent a cabana at the Thrill Water Park it will include admission for up to six guests. 

If you rent a cabana at the Coco Beach Club up to eight guests in your party will have access to the Beach Club.  

Hot Tip for Cococay Bahamas

If you were planning on attending the water park or beach club area, double-check to see if this is a similar price.  It might be worth it!

2. Take the Tram Around Perfect Day at Cococay Bahamas

Don’t want to walk? No problem!  Take the tram!

There is a tram line that circles the island.  It takes about 15 minutes to make a complete loop.  It runs between Thrill Waterpark, South Beach, Coco Beach Club, UP UP and Away, Oasis Lagoon, and Chill Island.

3. Eating Food at Cococay Bahamas

**Included

Most of the food options at Cococay are included in the purchase price of your cruise.  There is a lot of variety of food choices on Cococay. The locations at Cococay are located all around the island making it easy to get something to eat.  

Skippers Grill and Chill Grill

Skippers Grill and Chill Grill basically have the exact same menu with locations on opposite sides of the island.  They serve BBQ, fresh salads, and tacos.  

Also, note that the never-ending ice cream machines are located in these areas. 

Hours: 11:30am – 3:00pm

Snack Shacks on Perfect Day Coco Cay

The snack shake was my favorite.  I think we tried everything on the menu! It is so fun to have a variety of choices. Everything was really good!   I think I even preferred it to some of the restaurants on the ship.

4. Bars at Cococay Bahamas

**Additional Cost

There are 7 bars located at Perfect Day at Cococay.  This image is a swim-up bar.  Around the bars, you will see a lot of partying.  If you pre-purchased a drink package you can use it on the island.  

Captain Jacks is a bar but also serves chicken wings, dipping sauces, and fries.  There is an additional cost for the food at this location. 

Things to Do at Cococay Bahamas!

There are so many fun things to do at Perfect Day at Cococay Bahamas island! Let’s plan the perfect day with the Cococay attractions that interest you most.  The following are a few of the Cococay activities that you can choose from:

5. Thrill Water Park (Coco Cay Water Park)

**Additional Cost

The Thrill Waterpark is a family-friendly waterpark.  There is an additional cost to enter this area.  The cost varies by cruise ship and time of year.  The highlights of the park are the Daredevils Tower and the largest wave pool in the Caribbean.

On Daredevils tower there are 7 water slides. The water slides start off easy and increase in intensity as you climb the tower.  We went on all of them and the higher you go the more fun it becomes.  

Wave Pool 

The Caribbean’s largest wave pool is located at Thrill Waterpark.  It is a fun non-stop thrill.  My kids spent a lot of time playing in the waves. 

Hot Tip for Perfect Day Cococay

This park is probably not great for kids under 7 or short kids.  A lot of the slides have a height requirement of 48 inches.  There are plenty of free water activities outside of the Thrill waterpark for younger kids.  

6. Up, Up, and Away Helium Balloon

**Additional Cost

The Up, Up, and Away experience is a 10-minute helium balloon ride that takes you up 450 ft.  This is the highest vantage point in the Bahamas. There is an additional cost to go on a ride.

The balloon will not operate if the Cococay weather is too windy.  

7. Zip Line at Cococay Bahamas

** Additional Cost

The zip line is a fun activity that actually sores over the island and Thrill Water Park.  It is a 1600-foot zip line. It can be purchased as an individual Cococay attraction of bundled with the Thrillwater park.  

8. Coco Beach Club

** Aditional Cost

This is a new addition to Perfect Day at Cococay.  It is a Royal Caribean private island experience you will remember.  Luxury at its finest.  It is quiet with its own infinity pool and private dining area. 

There are also overwater bungalows and cabanas you can rent.  

Free Things to Do at Cococay Bahamas

We have gone over some of the things to do at Cococay that are an additional cost but there is plenty to do if you do not want to spend any more money. 

These activities are fun and there really is something for all ages.  

9. Captain Jill’s Galleon

**Included

If you are cruising with kids Captian Jill’s is a highlight for the little ones.  The ship will be one of the first things you see as you walk from the Cococay port and onto the island.  

The ship is a water splash pad with rope ladders, squirt guns, and slides.  It is really fun and the best part is that it is free.  This will probably entertain your kiddos for about 20 minutes depending on their ages. 

10. Splashaway Bay

**Included

Another great area for kids is Splashaway Bay.  This is a huge splash pad!  There are also water slides that are perfect for younger kids that would not be able to go on the ones at the Thrill Water park.  This area is really fun for kids 8 and under.

There are three water slides.  One is large enough for two people to go down.  The other two are racing slides.

The splash pad has dump buckets and squirt guns. Your kids can run all over the place! 

There are nice chairs to relax in while your kids have fun.  You can also borrow a book from a little library in this area.

11. Chill Island

**Included

Chill Island is a great spot to relax.  It is one of three beaches on Perfect Day at Cococay. Once you get off the boat you will not have to walk very far.  It is located on the left side of the island.

• Eat at the Chill Grill
• Scuba 
• Snorkel 
• Jet Ski
• Hang out on a Lounge Chair
• Build Sand Castles

If you want to snorkel, scuba dive, or rent watersport equipment, it is available to rent for an additional cost.  You can also rent a floating beach mat on Chill Island.  

12. Breezy Bay at Chill Island

Breezy Bay at Chill Island is another beach area.  It is farther south.  There are lots of chairs and even some beach games in this area.  

It is nice to be able to spread out.  Chill Island is one of the more popular beaches at Perfect Day at Cococay.  

13. Bay Harbor Beach

The beautiful Bay Harbor is centrally located.  It will be the first beach you will see as you exit the Cococay port.  It is a small beach with plenty of chairs and umbrellas.

This area is great on a windy day because you will not have as much in the harbor as you would at the other beaches on the island that face the wide-open ocean.  

14. Oasis Lagoon

**Included

Oasis Lagoon is a large pool with a swim-up bar.  I wouldn’t say this was the most family-friendly area. In fact, we walked up to the oasis and found 100’s of adults dancing, drinking, and throwing money in the air.  This may have scarred my kids…just kidding. 

It was fun to watch.  The pool is large so you could find a spot away from the bar and then it would be more family-friendly.  

15. Coco Cay Beach (South)

**Included

If you want a quieter beach go to south beach. South Beach is the farthest beach from the ship.  You can take a tram to this area.  This is a new addition to Perfect Day at Cococay.  There are very nice sports areas in this area.  As well as kayaks and paddleboards.  This beach is great for teens.  

Hot Tip for Cococay Bahamas

Many people walk straight to Chill Island because it is close to the port.  If getting away from the crowds is your desire, be strategic and go straight to South Beach.   

16. Shopping at Cococay Island Market

**Additional Cost 

There are local goods and great souvenir ideas at the Staw Market.  The tram does make a stop in a convenient location so that you can shop around.

There are lots of items that you may have forgotten to bring as well as fun souvenirs to take home.  I found a lot of the prices were very pricey.
