Despicable Me Minion Mayhem Ride at Universal Hollywood

The rides at Universal Studios Hollywood are pretty fun.  Most of the rides are virtual or 3D experiences.

My least favorite ride at Universal Studios is the Simpson Ride so it did not make my list of best rides at Universal Studios Hollywood.

I will give you a list of the Universal Hollywood attractions and then I will rank them!

List of Universal Studios Hollywood Rides

  • Kung Fu Panda Adventure
  • Mario Kart Bowser’s Challenge
  • Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
  • Flight of the Hippogriff
  • Jurassic World – The Ride
  • Revenge of the Mummy – The Ride
  • Transformers The Ride 3D
  • The Secret Life of Pets: Off the Leash
  • Despicable Me Minion Mayhem

10. Flight of the Hippogriff

Flight of the Hippogriff ride at Universal Hollywood

Height Requirement: 36″

Location: Upper Lot (Wizarding World of Harry Potter)

Flight of the Hippogriff is located in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.  (My favorite place at Universal Hollywood!)

The Line

The line can get long. I recommend going right after you ride the castle ride or right before.  Some of the lines at Universal are amazing. This is just a normal line, nothing fancy!

The Ride

This ride is a junior coaster, it is great for kids.  Actually, I have a 9-year-old who hates roller coasters but absolutely loved this one.

It is the perfect ride for your younger Harry Potter fans.  If you are seeking thrills this ride might not be for you.

This is probably one of the best rides at Universal Studios Hollywood for little kids! It ranks 10 because adults may not find it as adventurous!

9. Kung Fu Panda Adventure

Universal Hollywood Ride - Kung Fu Panda Adventure

Height Requirement: None

Location: Upper Lot

The Line

Because this ride is in an interactive theater you have two good things going for you. One, you can fit a lot of people in the theater at once, and two, the show starts while you wait in line before you enter the theater.

The Ride

You will enter a large room and find out what the mission of the ride is.  You will get to see some of your favorite Dream Works characters.

Once you enter the theater your seat will vibrate, and you may even fill a mist of water as you join in on the adventure.  In total, this ride is about 10 minutes.

It is a fun ride for everyone including little kids!

8. Secret Life of Pets

Secret Life of Pets Ride at Universal Studios Hollywood

Height Requirement: 34″

Location: Upper Lot (Minion Land)

The Secret Life of Pets is one of the newest rides at Universal Studios Hollywood.  It is perfect for kids! It is not virtual or 3D.

You will move along a track and experience yourself as a pet getting ready to get adopted, in fact, you become a dog!

The Line

This ride sometimes requires a virtual queue pass.  You will have to log in to your app and request to join.

The Ride

This ride is so cute! We loved it! You will start as a scruffy dog but then get to be cleaned up.  You will actually get to see yourself as a dog! It is pretty cool!

This is a fantastic Universal Hollywood ride for kids!

7. Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem

Minion Mayhem ride at Universal Hollywood

Height Requirement: 40″

Location: Upper Lot (Minion Land)

Minion Mayhem is a fun adventure located in a theater. It is a 3D ride or more like show.

The Line

The adventure starts as you are waiting to enter the theater.  The waiting room is designed to introduce the ride.  It is very interactive.

The Ride

As you enter the theater you will be assigned a vehicle that will contain 4 seats.  The adventure is 3D.  It is super silly and a lot of fun.  My 9-year-old loves minions and really enjoyed this ride.

6. Transformers 3D Ride

Transformers Universal Hollywood Ride

Height Requirement: 40″

Location: Lower Lot

Transformers is a 3D ride that takes you on an adventure to defeat the bad guys.

The Line

This is one of the more popular rides at Universal Hollywood, so the line can get long.  A child swap is available for this ride.

The Ride

This virtual ride is fun! It is super intense, there is never a dull moment.  The ride can be jerky. It probably isn’t great for younger kids as it is pretty intense the entire ride.   Tweens and teens will love it!  I liked the ride and think it is pretty solid choice!

5. Studio Tour

Universal Hollywood Studio Tour - Fast and the Furious Cars

Height Requirement: For Everyone

Location: Upper Lot

This is a legit Universal Studios Hollywood set tour.  You will see where actual TV shows and movies have been made.  It is incredible!

The Line

The Studio Tour is very popular the line can get super long!

The Ride

The tour takes about 1 hour.  This is a great place to”relax and enjoy the show.”

One really cool thing about the studio tour is that there are two rides you will experience while on the tour.

If you have been to Islands of Adventure and been on the Kong Ride or Universal Studios Orlando and enjoyed the Fast and the Furious Supercharged Ride, you will get to experience them while on the Studio Tour.

We really enjoyed the Studio Tour and highly recommend going! It is one of the best rides at Universal Studios Hollywood!

4. Jurassic World

Jurassic World Universal Studios Hollywood

Height Requirement: 42″

Location: Lower Lot (Jurassic World)

Jurassic World is a water ride! So make sure to bring some ponchos or you will get soaked!

The Line

This is another really popular ride so the line can get long!

The Ride

This ride has been updated with some awesome virtual technology.  You will get to be in the moment at Jurassic Park when everything breaks loose! Meaning dinosaurs are on the loose!

It is really fun! I would highly recommend wearing ponchos! It is one of the best Universal Hollywood rides!

3. Revenge of the Mummy

Revenge of the Mummy Ride at Universal Hollywood

Height Requirments: 48″

Location: Lower Lot

This is not the same Revenge of the Mummy ride that is in Universal Orlando!!!!  It is a coaster!

The Line

The line begins as you walk into ancient Eygpt.  It is pretty cool!

The Ride

I love this ride! It was so much fun! It is a thrill roller coaster. You go forward and then backward on a fast-moving track.

I didn’t think it was too scary but my 9-year-old who hates coasters was not a fan and very mad that we made him go!

The rest of our family loved it so much we could have gone on it over and over again!

This was one of the best rides at Universal Hollywood hands down!

2. Mario Karts Bowsers Challenge

Mario Bowsers Challenge new ride at Universal Studios Hollywood

Height Requirement: 40″

Location: Lower Lot (Super Nintendo World)

This is one of the newest rides at Universal Studios Hollywood.  There is so much detail and special effects that went into this ride!

It is so cool!

The Line

The line is almost as fun as the ride.  Bowsers Castle has amazing theming! Everywhere you look you will find some cool details from the Mario games.

There are two parts before you actually ride the rides to help you get ready for the ride.  It doesn’t use words just images. I found it pretty confusing on what I was suppose to do on the ride.

I think the reason this ride ranks 2 is because I didn’t know exactly what to do on the ride.

The Ride

The ride is incredible. The visual effects are amazing. I just didn’t know how to defeat enemies or how to collect the digitial coins.  It was really overwhelming yet so cool!

If you are a ninetindo fan this ride will blow your mind! I really did love it and thought it was one of the best rides at Universal Studios Hollywood!

Power Up Band

If you purchase a power-up band you can use coins you have collected in Super Nintendo World during the ride.

1. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride at Universal Hollywood

Height Requirement: 48″

Location: Upper Lot (Wizarding World of Harry Potter)

I love Harry Potter! So even though I have been on this ride a million times at Universal Orlando, I still rank it #1.

The Line

I love the line.  It is so cool with Dumbledore who talks to you and even Ron, Hermione, and Harry giving instructions along the way.

I love the moving pictures and the Fat Lady.  So many details as you wait!

The Ride

This ride is a virtual ride that takes you on a journey around Hogwarts Castle and into the Forbidden Forest.

You will use all those spells you have always dreamed about.

Some people get a little motion sickness on this ride.  The first time I went it I felt a little sick but the 2nd wasn’t too bad!

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey will always be #1 for me.  I love it!

Let's Get Ready for the Best Rides at Universal Hollywood

Universal Hollywood Express Passes

Now that you have my opinion on what I think the best rides at Universal Studios Hollywood are let’s answer a few more questions you might have about these rides!

How Many Rides are at Universal Studios Hollywood?

11

Universal Hollywood is building a brand new Fast and Furious Roller Coaster coming in 2026.

How Many Days Do I Need at Universal Studios Hollywood?

If you purchase express passes you can probably ride every ride in one day.  I would say 2-3 days is probably more realistic without express passes.

Universal typically has deals,  Ask me in my Facebook Group and I can let you know what the current deal is!

Which Universal Studios Hollywood Ride Should I Ride First?

Having a plan of attack is always a good thing. As you enter the park check your app to see if a virtual queue is needed for any of the rides.

The most popular rides are typically the newest. So Secret Lives of Pets and Bowsers Challenge are going to be busy throughout the day.

I would head straight to Bowsers Challenge in Super Nintendo World when the park opens.  (If you have Express Passes you don’t have to be strategic.)

If you have a multi-day ticket or you have purchased express passes, you have more flexibility and can pretty much ride the rides in whatever order you want.

Is There a Rider Switch?

If you have little kids who are not tall enough to ride the rides at Universal Hollywood, don’t worry.  Universal Studios has waiting rooms so one person can go on a ride and the other can wait with the kids.

If you have additional older kids they will get to ride the ride twice in a row!

Hot Tip for Rides at Universal Hollywood

  • The morning is less crowded so you could easily ride a few rides before the park gets busy.  Also, right before the park closes ride lines are low!
  • Most of the rides at Universal Hollywood are great for everyone.  There are a lot of rides that younger kids can go on.
