The San Diego Zoo Safari Park is a 730 hectares free-range zoo in the San Pasqual Valley area of San Diego, 51 kilometres away from the zoo. A large selection of wild animals live in the park, coming from Africa, North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia and some of them belonging to endangered species. The park contains more than 2,600 animals of 300 species, as well as 3,500 plant species. The Africa Tram travels through the African exhibits in the semi-arid environment of this park. Animals such as giraffes, antelopes, cranes, buffalos and rhinoceros populate these expansive enclosures. Two million people visit this park every year and between 400 and 600 employees work here. The Southern California's quarantine centre for imported animals, the California condor breeding program and the world's largest veterinary hospital are based in this park.

The open-range enclosures include: Asian Savanna, African Plains, East Africa, North Africa, Southern Africa and Central Africa. Other exhibits include: Nairobi Village, Gorilla Forest, Hidden Jungle, Lion Camp, Condor Ridge, African Woods, African Outpost, Tours and Rides and the botanical gardens.
